Reassess NY resolutions with intention
The start of a new year feels like rebirth for me. We set new year resolutions. Most of the time these are good intentions rooted in our desire to feel more kind, mindful and balanced in life: Eating healthier, doing more exercise, spending more time with loved ones. It is a conscious act of wanting to feel good. However, intentions only work if our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are aligned. We might think, we should do more exercise, eat healthier but if we do not feel it nor act like it, we give up. Where are you now, with your intentions as January is coming to an end? How is worked out for you? Perhaps these questions can support you in either letting go or strengthening your intentions for the months ahead, first ask: “Why, do I think, I need to do more exercise or eat healthy? Is my body asking for it, or my mind telling me to? You know the answer. Then find a way to align body and mind.
Yoga is a great tool to learn alignment of thoughts, feelings and actions. Each practice starts with an intention e.g. allowing to be present, letting go, kind words, time for me. These can be relevant on and off the mat. The intention guides and helps align thoughts and feelings through movement and breath. In the end of class, we reflect on the intention. Give thanks to our body, our self and rebirth.
